What’s With the Healthier Choice Symbol?

Pursuing healthy living is hard and can be exhausting at times but it doesn’t mean that you should give it up easily. Being healthy is not a futile attempt to live long. The Health Promotion Board (HPB) encourages Singaporeans to live healthy and long.

HPB put in place many programs and initiatives to help Singaporeans in pursuit of healthy living. Recently, HPB partnered with more than two hundred supermarket outlets to endorse and encourage healthy eating at home.

Singaporeans should be given the chance to make informed decisions when it comes to picking the right food. With this, HPB created Healthier Choice Symbol (HCS). HCS will serve as your guide when it comes to grocery purchases. Here are some symbols that you need to know:

  • Higher in whole-grains: When products carry a higher in whole-grains logo, it means that the product contains 20% whole-grains compared to other foods in the same category. Whole-grains are vital source of vitamin E and phytochemicals.

  • Lower in sodium: When products carry a lower in sodium logo, it means that the product contains 25% less sodium compared to other foods in the same category. Extreme sodium intake can increase the risk of blood pressure and kidney disease.
